INDEPENDENT NATIONAL ELECTORAL COMMISSION PRESS RELEASE CHALLENGES EXPERIENCED WITH THE INEC RESULTS VIEWING PORTAL (IReV) The Commission is aware of challenges with the INEC Results Viewing Portal (IReV). Unlike in off-season elections where the portal was used, it has been relatively slow and unsteady. The Commission regrets this setback, especially because of the importance of IReV in our results management process. The problem is totally due to technical hitches related to scaling up the IReV from a platform for managing off-season, State elections, to one for managing nationwide general elections. It is indeed not unusual for glitches to occur and be corrected in such situations. Dino Melaye, the collation agent of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is currently protesting the process of collation and result announcement. The former lawmaker is challenging all the results presented by the various State Collation Officers. He wants the results presented at the polling units displayed on the INEC website for comparison with the ones presented by the state’s collation officers. Govt to regulate electrical equipment importers’ activities

The Federal Government has commenced the registration of importers of electrical electronic equipment across the country in a bid to regulate their activities and curb e-waste. The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency stated in a statement on Friday that it had developed a guide for Importers of used electrical electronic equipment to manage e-waste in Nigeria adequately. NESREA in the statement issued to announce the inauguration of an Inter-Agency Committee by its Director-General, Prof. Aliyu Jauro, disclosed that the inter-agency committee which is made up of officials of the agency and the National Broadcasting Commission was set up to strengthen the collaboration between the two agencies in the management of e-waste. It said the committee would mainly ensure an e-waste-free environment at the end of the digital switch-over in Nigeria. A source who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent reports that the victims have been rushed to an undisclosed hospital in the LGA where they are receiving treatment. According to the source “Some hoodlums stormed unit 11 and 12 at Oniong West Ward one in Onna Local government Area of the state and hijacked one BVAS. They inflicted matchet cuts on two of their victims before escaping into the bush. “The victims have been taken to the hospital in Onna LGA for treatment” The chairman of Onna LGA Mr Iniabasi Ekanem, who confirmed the incident said however that the incident is being handled by the security agencies. “We have little issues, we expected it but it depends on the way we manage it. The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Adamu, has lost his polling unit to Labour Party. The APC national chairman cast his vote at Angwarimi Ward, GRA A1, LERCEST Office in Keffi, Nasarawa State. Announcing the presidential poll result, the LP presidential candidate polled 132 votes while the APC came second with 85 votes. For the other positions: Senatorial – APC (55), PDP (22), LP (42), NNPP (4), SDP (184), ADC (1), ZLP (3), while invalid votes were seven (7). #NigeriaElections2023: How rain, poor BVAS network marred voting in Rivers

The Bimodal Voter Accreditation System machine’s poor network marred voting process in some parts of Rivers State. A heavy rainfall which also began in the afternoon around Polling Unit 7, Ward 9, Rumuepirikom, Port Harcourt, in the state, sent some voters home. While some voted successfully, some voters were seen returning home as they said they were going home because of the poor network of the BVAS machine. A woman, who was seen returning home, said, “They said the network is bad,” when asked why she was leaving. The PUNCH earlier reported that the governor of the state, Nyesom Wike, could not vote when he came in the morning. The PUNCH reported that the voters lamented earlier in the day after waiting since 8am at the polling unit but couldn’t get accredited. Accreditation began late at the polling unit as election materials and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission were not also seen around 10am.
