Leadership In Crises: The Situation Now And The Way Out!
---------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------
One of the best moments to know the kind of leaders you have is during crises. Crises reveals the leader in most leaders. Crises offer leaders a golden opportunity to fix things and turn them around for greatness.
When in the midst of plenty leadership is failing, then what you have at best, are opportunists in men and women who have no business whatsoever being in the public space especially occupying public offices.
There is no doubt that Nigeria is in a deep crises and there is also no doubt that the current leaders both at the state and the national level have proven incompetent. I am talking about leaders who are calling the shots at different levels both at the State and the national. I know we have a few who are good but they are buried in the rubble of the wicked leaders who have no focus and direction for themselves talk more of the the people they are leading.
We have leaders who are very erratic, vainglorious, impetuous, corrupt, vindictive, religious bigots, unintelligent, inarticulate, stupidly daring everything wrong. They are working hard to kill Nigeria but they wont succeed.
Our leaders are currently failing or rather losing the most important battle in the history of Nigeria. The battle to keep Nigeria one. The battle of survival of the Nigerian Nation. The battle of industrializing Nigeria. The battle over unemployment...etc..
The Solution!
Transforming Nigeria is simple. It is not rocket science.
The Solution to our problems is in Crises management.
Martha Beck said "Any deep crisis is an opportunity to make your life extraordinary in some way." Leonard Saffir said "In crisis management, be quick with the facts and slow with the blame."
Its funny that our leaders are trying to hide from the problems they created many years ago and recently, Well, Bear Bryant said, “In a crisis, don’t hide behind anything or anybody. Because they’re going to find you anyway.”
In design thinking and systems thinking, we apply the PSDA code which simply means Plan, Study, Design and Act. We carry out a root cause analysis asking all the why until you get to the last why . And if you cant do that for any reason please get experts to help you.
As a leader you need to be able to solve problems both simple and complex problems. Abraham Lincoln taught us to believe in the people when he said, “I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts.”
This is not exhaustive but when faced with crises, the man or woman who understands leadership will look inward, take responsibility, call for help and face the crises head on with the involvement of "we the people".
There is so much that "we the people" can do that "I the leader" cannot do.
This is SDK.
